January 2012 Luxe Box

Written by:

I am pleased with my first Luxe Box of 2012. The extra big box came with an assortment of products (including three full-size products).

* MyScent - This month's Luxe Box came with a little pouch of different scents. It's a new program that Loose Button is piloting called MyScent. I most excited for the Prada Candy sample -- I'm definitely purchasing the full-size of that. The following fragrances were included:
* Prada Candy
* Prada Infusion D'Iris
* Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps
* Nina Ricci Nina
* Paco Rabanne Black XS
* Paco Rabanne Lady Million

* Yves Rocher Lipstick - I have never tried this brand before so I was interested to try it. It is a lovely colour and it applies beautifully. This was a full-size product and it retails for $5.

* Chi Silk Infusion - I absolutely love this hair treatment. It leaves my hair feeling smooth and de-frizzed.

* Benefit Creaseless Shadow - I reserved this product via Loose Button's "First In Line" program. It was one of two full-size Benefit products (the other being the Powda Wowza), a Donna Karan body lotion, and a Curly Hair Solution. I was originally going to get the Powda Wowza but I already have the full-size versions of the blushes so I got the shadow instead. It's a lovely colour -- a shimmery gold called Fahrenheit Fab. It's creamy and it applies very smoothly. This product retails for $19.

* Seattle's Best Coffee - I love coffee so I was excited to see this. I haven't tried it yet but I can't wait to.

Also included with this month's Luxe box was a special Bath & Body Box.

* Fredrick Fekkai Shampoo & Conditioner - I'm a huge fan of Fekkai products, especially their dry shampoo and styling products. I am impartial on their shampoo/conditioners, though. They work well but less expensive drugstore brands work just as well with my hair type.

* Schick Hydro Silk Razor - Another full-size product. I wasn't too excited about this product, mostly because I don't need to shave my legs, so I have no use for it… but I'm sure if I did, I would appreciate it more. This has a retail value of $14.

Overall I was happy with this month's box! January was supposed to be my last month but now, I'm debating whether or not to re-subscribe.

All of these subscription services are definitely a hit or miss. Some month's are great and some aren't. I've been lucky because I haven't received a box that I absolutely regretted. I know that there's a few people who were quite dissatisfied with their box this month.

What did you think of your Luxe Box this month?

Week in Photos

Written by:

Happy Sunday, everyone!

* I baked cupcakes (and I also ended up eating half of them before they were even cool).

* I still have the red envelope I received last year. My mum always told me not to spend it because it was good luck :).

* My makeup routine this past week has been simple and easy: MAC pressed powder, Benefit Hoola, Benefit Sugarbomb, and theBalm Mary Loumanizer.

* Personal best at Temple Run.

* Adore Essie Luxe Effects.

* Dinner at Spice Route. Food was OK, service was good. Ordered water & the glasses smelled kind of funky. Server said that it was probably the dishwasher -- not really something you like to hear while ordering :/.

* Glitter + shoes = amaze.

* Still obsessed with Hello Pandas.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

NOTD #16: Essie Absolutely Shore

Written by:

Spring fever has drawn me to this pastel mani.

I absolutely love Essie Absolutely Shore's soft minty green colour. It reminds me of a muted Mint Candy Apple.

It's quite finicky to apply though. It took three coats for an even finish. I expect this to last two days before it begins to chip and peel. That's the by-product of having too many layers of polish on.

But until then, I am enjoying the glimmer of Spring on my nails.

Little Musings

Written by:

I have been toying with the idea of fringe recently.

I'm looking for a noncommittal hairstyle change. I want a new look without a major cut (or colour, obviously). Bangs seem to be the answer. They add an instant chic and a little edginess. Plus, it's simple to undo if I have regrets (i.e. bobby pins and patience).

For me, the only drawback of bangs is that it's high maintenance. They require constant grooming.

I have grown accustomed to my low maintenance hair routine, so I'm not sure how easy the transition will be.

I think bangs suit me (see exhibit A below). This picture was taken circa 2010 --- I was still a BlackBerry user then. It's crazy to think that this was two years ago considering that I still own/wear that top, I still use that bag, I still wear that bracelet, I still have those sunglasses, and my hair now is relatively the same length. It's like nothing has changed.

Are they worth the fuss?

NOTD #15: Essie Eternal Optimist

I love this colour... probably why I have a lot of polishes in this family.

Essie Eternal Optimist is a beautiful soft, earthy pink hue. It's a lovely everyday colour. It has a nice consistency and applies evenly with two coats.

2012 "It" Colour

Written by:

Annually, Pantone will declare a specific colour as "Colour of the Year." This year, it's Tangerine Tango.

I have always loved the colour orange. It's bright and fun... the perfect bridge between yellow and red. Here are some of my favourites.

What do you think? Will you be sporting this hue?

Is it Spring Yet?

Written by:

I'm loving this mild January weather. It has allowed me to wear clothing that would otherwise be inappropriate for a typical Winter day.

Sweater: Zara
Trench: Zara
Skinny Jeans: Rich&Skinny
Boots: Coach (last, last, last, last season)
Tote: Michael Kors

This is also the debut of my new Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Tote in Tangerine (which seems to be the it colour this year).

This bag was a little bit of an impulse buy.

Here's the story...

Last week, I went into Holt Renfrew to pick up the Prada tote in Papaya, which I reserved a few months ago.

If you watch my videos (Link!), you know that I had originally purchased the black version but then saw a promo picture of the Papaya colour and fell in love.

However, when I saw the bag in person, I wasn't as wowed as I thought it would be :(. So, I decided to forgo it and I went back to my original choice.

On my way out, I saw this MK tote. The colour is exactly the same as the Prada and it's the exact same Saffiano leather.

For some reason, I was much more drawn to the orange hue on this bag than the Prada.

The shape reminds me a lot of the Neverfull. It's the perfect colour and design for Spring/Summer.

Are you loving this year's it colour?

Week in Photos

Written by:

Hi lovelies,

This week went by pretty fast for me.

I'm not taking as many pictures as I would like to, but here are some random pictures of my week.

* I am so happy to have my laptop back. I've spent the last few days de-cluttering it and deleting old/duplicate files. I didn't realize it before but I am a serious ESI (electronically stored information) hoarder.

* I am obsessed with Temple Run. I just started it playing it the other day and I went from a score of  200K to 1.9M.

* My boyfriend bought me flowers for no reason. He's the sweetest.

* I love dumplings and chicken wings. Not together. Though now that I'm thinking about it, it would probably be delicious :).

* Very excited that Glossybox has come to Canada. I cannot wait for my first box.

* I usually order a tall latte from Starbucks but I indulged this week and ordered a venti caramel frap. I ordered it without whip and caramel sauce. In my opinion, it tastes better. Plus, you save 200 calories.

I hope you're all having a great weekend!

January 2012 Glymm Box

Written by:

My January Glymm Box has arrived (and it even came a day before it was supposed to).

There was a nice variety in this month's box (and just like in my Topbox, there was a full-size product).

In the box was a full-sized eye pencil from Cargo. I really like the colour, which is in Wood. It's a pretty light brown colour but I'm not a big fan of the application.

It's a little difficult to apply, even after warming up the pencil. It just doesn't apply as smooth as I would like it to and it tugs on the eye slightly.

It does last a while though and it doesn't smudge.

I have never tried any products from Anastasia before so I was happy to see it in this month's box. Anastasia originated in Beverly Hills but now it's available at Sephora. I have never found the need for a brow pencil before but I certainly need a brow gel on occasion. My thick brows can often be unruly.

I like the formula of this brow gel. It tames my brows without leaving them feeling stiff. Also, the formula isn't sticky and dries quickly after application.

I've never tried the Kaia Naturals cleansing cloth before but I really like that it's biodegradable. This means it won't cause too much garbage and pollution.

I have been purchasing this BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator from Vasanti. I've heard a lot of great things about it so I was excited to get a sample of it.

I haven't tried it yet but when I do, I will let you know my thoughts.

The last product in my Glymm box were two samples of the Burt's Bees Milke & Honey Body Lotion. Each sample doesn't offer that much product so I was glad to see that Glymm included two packets. This way you can use it multiple times.

I love products from Burt's Bees because they're all made of natural ingredients (and they smell great).

If you received a Glymm box this month, please let me know what products you received. From what I've watched/read, most of the boxes were similar though.

Hope you're having a great day!

P.S. I'm super sad there wasn't any candy in this month's box :(.

January 2012 Topbox

Written by:

My first subscription box of the year to arrive and I am quite happy with it.

For those of you who don't know, Topbox is a great service that delivers you four deluxe samples. I have received some great products in my past boxes and this month was no exception (check out November & December).

There was a nice variety in this month's box, including a full-sized product.

I love this Lise Watier eyeliner. It comes in many different colours and has excellent application. It applies smoothly and doesn't tug on the skin. It's waterproof and lasts most of the day.

The colour I received is in Smokey Brown and it's lovely. I prefer brown liner on an everyday basis because I like the natural look.

Like I said, this is a full-sized product, which means it's value is greater than the cost of the box!
Dry shampoo is probably my favourite hair product. It's perfect for me because I don't like washing my hair everyday. Sometimes my hair needs a refresher and that's where dry shampoo comes in.

I have tried other products from Principessa, like their shampoo and conditioner, but I didn't really love it. I really like their dry shampoo, though. I used it yesterday and it worked just like a dry shampoo should.

It absorbed the oils in my hair, leaving it feeling refreshed and manageable.

I also really like that this product was personalized for my hair colour. The powder is a light brown colour, which works perfectly with my dark hair. The powder blends nicely and doesn't leave a noticeable residue.

You can never have enough hand cremes during the winter season.

I have never heard of this product before but I was excited to try it. It's a nice creme that is made of natural ingredients. It has a very organic scent to it that I am partial about but it feels nice on the skin. It is moisturizing and doesn't leave a residue on your skin.

I also really like that this product/brand is made in Australia. It's fun to try different products from other countries that you may not have heard of.

The last product in this month's Topbox is from Shu Uemura. It's a Musk Rose Oil hair mask that is supposed to leave your hair looking shinier and provides your hair with more body. Also, it's safe for colour treated hair!

I haven't tried it yet but when I do, I will give you an update.

So those were the products in this month's Topbox.

If you received a Topbox this month, please let me know what you thought of it (and if you received different products).

Hope you're all having a great day!

NOTD #14: Essie It's Genius

Written by:

I bought this polish last summer and today is the first time I used it. *blush*.

Does that happen to you too?

This is why I'm so happy to be undertaking my mission to wear every nail polish I own at least once in 2012.

Essie It's Genius is a beautiful grape purple colour with lovely coppery/gold flecks. I absolutely fell in love with this colour when I bought it but I seriously cannot remember ever using it.

I adore the shimmer in this polish, it's a lovely combination and compliments the purple well.

It applies easily, too. It took two coats for an even finish.

GLOSSYBOX Comes to Canada!

Written by:

I have been waiting for this day to come ever since I saw the first unboxing on YouTube (and especially after MissHanaG's December box).

GLOSSYBOX has come to Canada!

I know what you're thinking... Another subscription service?!

It's true. The market is getting a little saturated but I like that. It keeps things competitive. It means that these services have to offer great products and excellent service in order to keep it's customers. There isn't that much stopping someone from dropping one box and switching to another.

I am waiting for my first Glossybox to arrive before giving a full review.

Until then, here's a few things you should know:

* Glossybox originated in the UK and is now available to Canadians [EDIT: it actually originated in Germany]

* Same service as usual -- Deluxe beauty samples delivered to your door

* Guaranteed five products in each box

* Free shipping

* Costs $15/month --- while this seems a little steep, it's $15 including all applicable tax. So really, it's only a few dollars more than the other services

Only time will tell whether it's worth it, but I am still excited to try it.

If you'd like to try it out, you can order yours here!

Happy Tuesday!

NOTD #13: Essie Trophy Wife

I absolutely love this colour in the bottle, but applied, I'm on the fence.

It's a beautiful rich teal colour with pretty shimmer. I'm just not sure that it compliments me well. Maybe it's a colour more suited for the warm rays of summer?

Week in Photos

Written by:

This week's Week in Photos is just as weak as last week. Pardon the tongue twister ;).

It got fairly frigid this weekend so I was sporting my Bogs for the majority of it. They're my favourite winter boots ever. They're so warm... and I'm not going to lie, the pull-on handles were a big selling point for me. I thought it was so cute!

Another thing you'll learn about me in this post is that I'm a foodie :).

On another note...

I picked up my laptop today! I'm grateful to have it back. I started to itch for it a couple days ago.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Top 11 of 2011 - Cheeks

Written by:

Cheek products, especially blushes, are my favourite makeup products.

Here are 11 cheek products that I have been really loving in 2011 (and that I will continue to love in the future):

* Hard Candy Skinny Dipping - lovely peachy/coral colour. It's a bronzing duo, so it offers a really nice summer glow. Great pigmentation and inexpensive.

* Benefit Sugarbomb - sheer, subtle peachy colour with lovely shimmer. It's buildable and easy to blend, aka it's fool proof.

* Revlon Berry Flirtacious - a blue-based, berry cream blush that looks great on the cheeks. It applies smoothly and lasts all day. Perfect for the summer.

* Bare Minerals Rose Radiance - sheer pink with lots of shimmer. My favourite mineral blush. Provides a beautiful glow to your cheeks.

* NARS Lustre - golden peachy bronze colour. My favourite blush for the spring/summer season. It's a lovely summer cheek glow.

* NARS Dolce Vita - a soft matte berry colour, almost a dusty rose. Like all NARS blushes, it's pigmented. You have to be careful not to apply too much. It's a very strong colour.

* NARS Sin - a berry colour with a golden shimmer. My favourite blush for the fall/winter season.

* NARS Mata Hari - beautiful matte pink color with a little bit of a red undertone. Lovely on the cheeks.

* NARS Orgasm Multiple - gorgeous peachy pink color with gold shimmer. Daresay, I much prefer the multiple over the blush. The multiple applies nicer, and the color looks better.

* Benefit Hoola - matte bronzer. Great for a nice glow and perfect for contouring. Warms up the complexion and easy to blend.

* theBALM Mary Loumanizer  - lovely golden/ivory highlighter. Provides great glow with lovely shimmer (not too sparkly). Easy to apply and has a smooth, silky finish.
