Quick Smoky Eye & NYE Outfit

Written by:

Hi lovelies,

In last minute fashion, I have decided to attend a friend's New Year Eve's party. Here's a quick smoky creation using L'Oreal's Infallible eyeshadow in Eternal Black. I really like these eyeshadows. They have a powder to cream consistency and have excellent lasting power (plus, they're similar to the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill shadows but a much more wallet-friendly price).

I especially love the glitter in this shadow. There's a bit of fallout but for the most part, it stays in place and layer like a dream. It's great for a night out and to top it off, it's easy to apply -- I just use my fingers. It's my go-to smoky look.

Hope you're having a wonderful NYE! x

(Belated) Holiday Gift Guide

Written by:

Hi lovelies,

I imagine this will only be helpful for the very last minute shopper, but if that's you, here are some ideas that would make great gifts for the holidays (or all year round). So, ladies first...

1. Burberry lip glow trio. Burberry glosses are becoming my new favourite formula. I like this trio because you get three full sized glosses (their best selling ones) and it's 20% cheaper than buying the three individually. I got mine from the Burberry Counter at Holt Renfrew on Bloor St.

2. A Pandora bracelet or charm. This is always a great gift. There are so many different charms / bracelets, there's one for anyone / any occasion.

3. A planner. I love picking up a new planner. It's a great way to stay organized throughout the year. My favourite is from Moleskine. It's not as sparkly as other planner but it's functional and classic.

4. Echo Design Touch gloves. I was (and still am) obsessed with these gloves. I discovered them last year. They're a great gift for all of us touch screen techies because your hands can stay warm in the winter weather and still be able to stay connected.

Other great gifts are any of the gift sets from Sephora or even a gift card to a spa.

Now, shopping for us is easy, but what do you get the guy in your life? Again, there's the obvious choices like electronics (video games, tablets, iPads, iPods, iPhones -- basically i-anything), a wallet (something that you know your guy will always have / use), a watch, or cologne (my faves are Aqua di Gio and Bleu de Chanel). Here are some other great gifts:

1. Nike Fuelband. This would work great for men and women. It's stylish yet functional. It will keep you on track with your fitness goals, whether it's maintaining a healthy lifestyle or shedding those holiday pounds.

2. A John Allan's membership. Guys may not want to admit, but they like getting pampered as much as us. This is a grooming club that caters to men only. They offer a full service experience: hair cut, scalp massage, manicure, shoe shine, and complimentary beer taps behind the bar.

3. A world-class bottle of single malt. A perfect holiday / winter whiskey. The flavour is a mix of Sherry, fruit, raisins, and cocoa, all mixed with a few wood notes.

4. A custom dress shirt or suit. At least once in his life, a man should have a dress shirt (or two... or five) custom made. There's something about the unsurpassable fit and the attention to detail that goes into having a shirt that fits perfectly.

Are you finished your holiday shopping? What was on your list this year? x

December's Beauty Boxes

Written by:

I received two beauty boxes in the mail the other day and I thought I would share them with you. It's actually the last time I'll be getting these boxes -- at least for now. I need a break from these subscription services at the moment.

The two I received are the Luxe Box and the Topbox.

Luxe Box is now a seasonal box (and the price is $25 plus tax every 3 months), while Topbox is monthly (and recently upped their price to $12/month).

I was quite pleased with my Winter Luxe Box, so I will start with that one. I love the card that came with the box -- super cute! The drawstring pouch the products were wrapped in was a nice touch, too.

A lot of goodies were spilling out of this month's Luxe Box:

  • Essie Nail Polish in She's Pampered. It's from the Winter collection and it's a pinkish red shade.
  • A mini Eyeko Skinny brush mascara. I received an Eyeko product in last season's box and am loving it, so I'm excited to try this mascara.
  • A Loose Button kabuki. I love kabuki brushes! This one is quite soft and the Loose Button logo on the handle is adorable.
  • Schwarzkopf Dust It is an interesting hair product. I haven't tried it yet, but it is supposed to give your hair volume and natural texture with a matte finish. It's a full-size bottle and it's one I actually picked from the "First in Line" option.
  • B.Kamins Daily Lotion is really nice on the skin. It's moisturizing and lightweight.
  • Dermalogica Precleanse is a cleansing oil. It has a lot of natural ingredients in it and I'm excited to try it.
  • A mini fragrance bottle of the Donna Karen Woman. I love receiving mini bottles of fragrances. I've actually started collecting them because I think they're so cute. It has an interesting scent -- kind of fruity / citrus-y.
  • A hair serum from Kerastase called Christalliste Lumiere Liquide. I really enjoy using Kerastase products, I imagine this one will be no exception.
I really enjoyed this box! A lot of products I would likely use and definitely worth the price tag.

***

On to my December Topbox. Nothing to get excited about, really. I did enjoy the festive packaging, but the products were nothing to write home about -- especially considering the price increase. I was expecting something a little different, a little more.

There were four product in this box:

  • Ferro Cosmetics Mineral Foundation. I'm interested to try this. I'm quite a fan of mineral makeup. It's a small jar, but I find that mineral makeup can last a long time.
  • A hair product from Goldwell called the Jelly Boost. I don't often use this type of product on my hair, but it is a gel that is supposed to volumize and texturize.
  • Balenciaga fragrance, which I had already received in last last month's box (this time without the bonus of a Balenciaga pouch).
  • Two Pangea Facial Cream packets. Made of all natural ingredients and is supposed to slightly matify the skin.
I wasn't too excited about this box. Not excited at all, actually. Like I mentioned, the higher price tag leaves this box lacking. I wasn't expecting full- sizes of anything, but I was hoping the quality would be there.

So, yes, at the moment, I have umsubscribed to both the Luxe Box and the Topbox. I will probably re-subscribe in the future, but for now, I think I'll spend the $37 on something else.

What boxes have you received this December? x

Ps, my apologies if my blog has been eating your comments! I just noticed a bunch have gone unpublished in the last few months because they were flagged as spam. I've hopefully rectified the situation! :)

12 Days of Giveaways - Day 12

Written by:

Hi lovelies,

Can you believe it's the last day of this little giveaway series? Time flew!

Today I wanted to give away my favourite beauty tool, the Clarisonic Mia. This amazing electric face brush has changed my skincare routine. For the better, of course.

It's a simple tool -- basically an oscillating brush head -- but it has done wonders for the texture, softness, and appearance of my skin.

Now, my skin isn't the worst, but it's not the greatest, either. It's right in the middle. I'm prone to acne, though I haven't had a breakout in a while (knock on wood), and my skin type is combination / normal. It's not overly sensitive, though exfoliators and certain treatments can irritate my skin occasionally.

I picked up the original Clarisonic years ago, but I lost it while traveling. A few months ago, I decided to pick up another one, this time the Mia, and I cannot go without it anymore.

I noticed an immediate difference in my skin. I am now obsessed. It has helped with some blemishes / hyperpigmentation that I have on my forehead from breakouts, and like I said, the overall texture of my skin. I did experience breakouts the first week(ish) that I was using it. I think it my skin purging all the impurities under my skin because I never had a breakout since.

I love the Mia because it's portability is very travel friendly, it has one speed (and I find that's all I need), and it comes in a lot of fun colours!

If you'd like to win a Clarisonic Mia, your choice of colour, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 16th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. 12 Days of Giveaways - Day 11

Hi lovelies,

Another multipurpose brush I love is the Chanel #1 Powder brush. It's a big, round brush, but it's surprisingly versatile. I use it for powder, blush, and even a little highlight. Not only is it great for applying product, it's also great for when you apply a little too much. The hair density is great for buffing out product.

It's quite soft, not the softest brush I own, but it's up there. I also heard a rumour that the Chanel brushes are made by the Japanese company Hakuhodo, which means the quality is superb. Zero shedding, even when washed.

12 Days of Giveaways - Day 10

Hi lovelies,

I love multipurpose makeup brushes and the MAC 109 is one of my favourites. The shape and density of this brush is great for a lot of things. I use it for blush, bronzer, highlighter. You've probably seen it mentioned in a few videos within this giveaway series alone. It's great for packing on colour, buffing out harsh lines, or adding definition to the face with contour.

The downside is that is sheds. A lot! Especially when I first got it and the first time I washed it. After a few months of use, I will notice a hair fall every once in a while, but the brush still looks full and dense.

It's a great brush for a multitude of products, from powder to cream, and I use it every single day.

If you'd like to win a MAC 109 brush, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 13th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Plus, I will announce the winner here and on facebook / twitter.

12 Days of Giveaways - Day 9

Hi lovelies,

It took me a while to warm up to the idea this egg shaped sponge, but lately I have been obsessed with it. The Beauty Blender is an unexpected favourite amongst my beauty tools. I picked up two a couple months and decided to pick up another one for one of you.

What I love most about the Beauty Blender. aside from the unique shape, is the ability to use it wet. I think that's the key to the smooth, flawless finish that it creates. The dampness of the sponge blends product beautifully. I use this when applying concealer under the eyes and it's the most natural finish. I've also used it on the rare occasion I wear foundation and it creates the same natural finish.

Essentially, the Beauty Blender is a sponge. That's why the results were so unexpected for me. It's hard to believe that something so seemingly simple, could be so great for applying makeup.

If you'd like to win a Beauty Blender, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 12th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Plus, I will announce the winner here and on facebook / twitter.

Hi lovelies,

Today's giveaway is a highlighter that I have recently become infatuated with, it's the Dior Amber Diamond.

I was on the fence about this product for the longest time, but now that I've been using it, I can see what all the hype is about. It's a superb highlight that looks natural without looking heavy, cakey, or overdone. The gold / bronze shades are incredibly flattering on the skin. I love the glowing sheen it provides without looking over the top.  The colours look great on the eyes, so it's multipurpose, too!

You get quite a bit of product in this, about 10 grams. Since you don't need a lot of product, this will last you forever (or at least a very long time).

If you'd like to win my favourite highlighter of the moment, the Dior Amber Diamond, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 11th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Day 5 - MAC Pro Palettes - Tyler S. --- still waiting for a reply

The Day 1 winner didn't end up emailing me back, so, I used Rafflecopter to randomly draw a new winner (Taylor S.). I've sent them an email and am just waiting for a reply.

12 Days of Giveaways - Day 7

Hi lovelies,

Today's giveaway is a lip product that I have been really loving lately. It's the Giorgio Armani Rouge D'Armani Sheers.

As you know, sheer lipsticks are my favourite lipstick formula. I just can't get enough of them. Out of all the brands I've tried, Giorgio Armani knocks it out of the park.

I only have two shades at the moment -- not for the lack of want. In my efforts to curb my addiction, I've put myself on a "one high end lip product a month" limit. Otherwise, I'd be stockpiling these beauties.

The two colours I have are #500 (bright magenta) and #301 (an everyday coral). Here's what I love about these:

  • The formula is incredible -- it's smooth and comfortable on the lips
  • The texture is almost balm-like
  • It has a semi-gloss finish
  • It wears about 3ish hours and leaves a slight stain afterwards
  • Most shades, especially the brighter / deeper ones, are quite pigmented
  • Best of all, they are incredibly hydrating given they're not chapsticks / balms

As this is another winner's choice giveaway, the winner will get to choose which shade they would like to receive. I like GA's colour selection because they're simple yet effective. They don't have a hundred different colours... Instead they have the main colour families (reds, pinks, neutrals, purples, corals) and then a select few within each family. There's a shade for everyone.

Just to note, if you happen to win and you'd prefer to try one of Giorgio Armani's Rouge D'Armani lipstick (which I can attest is a fabulous line, too)... I would be more than happy to pick you up a shade from that collection.

If you'd like to win a Giorgio Armani Rouge D'Armani Sheer (or Rouge D'Armani), just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 10th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Hi lovelies,

I have been obsessed with this bronzer since I got it, so naturally I had to include it in this giveaway. It's the Dior Nude Tan in Sunlight.

I have already done a more in depth review of this bronzer, but here's the gist of why I love it:
  • The packaging is stunning
  • The kabuki brush is not only good quality, but it's also quite useful for application
  • The rosy / peach tones allows this bronzer to double as a blush, or a simple cheek colour
  • The longevity is good and lasts most of the day
  • The shimmer is subtle and adds to the glow
  • It's easy to apply and blend for that flawless finish

If you'd like to win a Dior Nude Tan bronzer in Sunlight, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 9th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Plus, I will announce the winner here and on facebook / twitter.

[EDIT]

I have been a little remiss with announcing giveaways winners, so here are the winners so far:
Day 1 - Shu Uemura Eyelash curler - Carley S.
Day 2 - Chanel Bronze Universal - Carley S.

They are two different people, coincidentally with the same name. I've contacted both winners via email. I still have not heard from the winner of the Shu curler, so I may have to pick a new one tomorrow. I will keep you posted!

Also, if you win, I would love it if you would email / facebook / tweet me a pic or just let me know how you're liking your prize!

Hope you're all having a wonderful day, lovelies! x

12 Days of Giveaways - Day 5

Written by:

Hi lovelies,

Ever since these new MAC pro palettes were released, I have been obsessed, so I'm going to give today's winner two of these large MAC pro palettes so you can place your depotted blushes / eyeshadows in them!

As you can see, I use mine for an assortment of blushes, not just MAC ones. I have depotted Hard Candy blushes, my Benefit Hoola, a couple MAC blushes, and a Physician's Formula blush.

I like these palettes because they're in the same price range as the Z Palette, but made of a sturdier material (i.e. plastic). I also love the clear tops because it allows you to actually see what's inside the palette.

They're magnetized, but only certain magnetized pans will stick to them. In all other cases, you'll have to stick a magnet to the bottom of the pans for them to stick.

With these pro palettes, you also have a choice of purchasing inserts. I have zero desire to pick one up. They're impractical for me since I don't have a whole bunch of MAC eyeshadows or blushes. The customize inserts (i.e., the one with wells) looks interesting, though. If you're looking to depot a bunch of cream products, like foundations or lipsticks, it would be great for you. Other than that, I think it's a pricey addition considering the palettes work so well without inserts. However, if the winner would like to try one out, I'd be more than happy to pick one up to include as a prize.

If you'd like to win two empty MAC pro palettes, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 8th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Plus, I will announce the winner here and on facebook / twitter.

12 Days of Giveaways - Day 4

Hi lovelies,

Today's giveaway are two of my favourite micellar cleansers from Bioderma.

I will be giving away two bottles, and the winner will get to choose which they would like to receive (i.e., two pink bottles, two green bottles, or one of each).

The Bioderma Sensibio (the pink bottle) is the cult favourite makeup remover. It's perfect for all skin types and removes even waterproof makeup effortlessly. The way I like to use it is by soaking a cotton pad and then pressing it over any eye makeup I'm wearing for several seconds (probably 15 - 30). It helps breakdown your makeup so you don't have to scrub and tug at your eyes.

The Bioderma Sebium (the green bottle) is also a makeup remover, but it's for combination / oily skin types. I actually use this in conjunction with the Bioderma Sensibio. After removing any eye / face makeup, I will use the Bioderma Sebium as a toner all over the face. I find it helps with the oily patches I tend to get on my face (more specifically my forehead).

If you'd like to win two bottles of Bioderma cleansers (two pink, two green, or one of each), just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 8th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Hi lovelies,

Today's giveaway is a NARS blush. The winner will get to choose what shade they'd like to receive. I just wanted to show you four of my favourite NARS blushes, in case you need suggestions or are new to the brand. The winner does not have to pick from these four, though :).

I like NARS blushes for a few reasons:
  • The shade selection is great, often colours that are unique to the brand.
  • They blend easily and are highly pigmented.
  • They often last such a long time. You really get a bang for your buck.

Sin
A berry / mauve with gold shimmer.

Deep Throat
A shimmery peach. See my review here.

Taj Mahal
A vibrant burnt orange with gold shimmer. See an indepth review here.

Luster
A warm golden apricot.

Hi lovelies,

Today's giveaway is my favourite sheer cream bronzer for the face: the Chanel Bronze Universal.

The texture of this product is unlike typical bronzers, as it has a balm-like consistency. It applies smoothly and blends like a dream. I typically use a MAC 109 or a Real Techniques Expert Face brush to buff the product into my skin.

If you're fair, it's best to apply sparingly because this product does lean a noticeable orange. Medium skin tones can get away with a little more.

Nonetheless, the beautiful satin finish is great for contouring and adding that sunkissed glow.

(Picture above is my own, winner will be getting the brand new one in the first picture :)

If you'd like to win one, just enter below. All you need to know is that this giveaway is open worldwide and it will end on December 5th, 2012 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will be contacted via email. Plus, I will announce the winner here and on facebook / twitter.
