Price Drop | MAC Pro PaletteTuesday, August 20, 2013
Did you know that MAC has dropped the prices for their Pro Palettes / inserts? I didn't until I was browsing their website on the weekend. Apparently (from what I've read in the blogosphere), they dropped the prices a couple weeks ago claiming it's due to lowered costs in production.
I have to say, that's pretty rare to see. Usually companies lower production costs and keep the higher markup for more profit. So, to say that I was surprised to see up to an 80% price decrease is an understatement.
Here's a little breakdown (I'm listing Canadian pricing, obviously US pricing is a couple dollars less):
- The Large Pro Palettes, single & duo, are now $10 each (previously they were $21 and $30 respectively)
- The Pro Eyeshadow Palette x 4 is now $10
- The Pro Eyeshadow Palette x 2 is now $6
- All the inserts (12 well, 24 well, 6 blush, and 15 eyeshadow) are now $2 each (previously they were $11 each)
So, I took advantage of the free express shipping promotion on the weekend and picked up another Large Duo Palette and a couple inserts. All in all, this palette was less than $16 after tax. A month ago it would have set you back almost $60. I know! Craziness.
Anyway, I plan on making this a cheeks / lips palette. I do have the 24 well insert, but I find it too shallow for my liking. Besides, as a mere mortal, I really don't have any reason to be carrying around 24 lipsticks at one time, but it would be great for makeup artists or die-hard lipstick lovers!
I find the magnets on the Duo to be a little weaker than the Single palettes, but since I have inserts, I don't worry too much about it. Plus, it's easily fixed by making sure the magnet on the pans are strong.
Does the price drop entice you to pick up a MAC Pro Palette? Perhaps over a Z-Palette (which are a smidgen bigger, but also now more expensive)? x
