Current Empties | #5

Another collection of empties -- and hey, I actually have a makeup item this time! I managed to finish up quite a few half used products, so, let's start with the hair & body stuff.

TRESEMMÉ PLATINUM STRENGTH DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT
For the price point, Tresemmé makes some great hair products. I liked this leave-in conditioner, it made my hair feel incredibly soft after using it. Downside, my hair didn't hold up as well by the second day. It could also be a side effect of the summer humidity, though. I would definitely repurchase it -- but I'd probably wait until the fall.

HORTALEZA PROFESSIONAL HAIR SPA
This is something I bought in the Philippines a couple years ago. I tried it while I was on vacation there & I fell in love with it. I brought back six big tubs with me and stored them in the fridge to make them last as long as possible. This is actually my last one and I found out they they don't make it anymore *sadface*. My favourite thing about this hair mask -- aside from the beautiful glossy hair it gave me -- is the cooling sensation when it was in my hair. It will be missed dearly. If I could, I would definitely repurchase.

REDKEN GUTS 10
I liked this in the beginning -- it gave great volume after a blow blow -- but by the end, it just turned into a hot mess. It's a spray foam consistency, which took took a little getting used to. I don't think I'd repurchase this again.

ANATOMICALS BODY CLEANSER
I love the scent of roses, so this was right up my alley. It was a nice body wash, too. It didn't work any better (or any worse) than my usual drugstore pick. I got this in a past Glossybox, so I'm not sure where to get the brand, but if I did see it again, I wouldn't mind getting it.

JOHN MASTERS ORGANIC BODY WASH
This smells really good! It's a blend of orange and vanilla -- a little unexpected, but really nice. I would definitely purchase the full size of this.

BIODERMA SÉBIUM H2O
Love, love, love this stuff. Need I say more? I would definitely repurchase it.

BENEFIT THEY'RE REAL MASCARA
I often forget to share the mascaras I use up. Surprising because they have the highest turnover rate in my makeup stash. So, here's one I remembered to keep. I liked this mascara a lot. It's actually my second tube. I find that it separates my lashes nicely and it does add a smidgen of length. I also like the wand -- the little ball at the end is great for evenly coating the lashes. However, there are more inexpensive drugstore brands that work just as well.

L'OREAL YOUTH CODE SERUM
You use it twice a day (morning and night) and it is supposed to visibly reduce your dark spots. I tried using it on the face & I didn't really like it. When I used it under makeup, I found that it didn't sit well and had the tendency to peel. At night, I had the same peeling problem. So, instead of wasting it, I just used it as a neck / decolleté serum. Surprisingly, I actually did notice that it lightened (albeit, ever so slightly) a couple dark spots that I have on my chest. I still wouldn't repurchase it, though.

NARS RED LIZARD LIPSTICK
Can you believed I've only had this lipstick since November? It hasn't even been a year yet & I'm down to this little nub. I actually wore it all the time during the winter season. It was my go-to red lip. A matte vivid red, adore! I would definitely pick this beauty up again.

AMBI FADE CREAM
I got this a couple of years ago and I kind of forgot about it. It worked rather nicely on my skin, though. Apparently, this skincare line is made for people with olive / deep skin tones. It really helped with the dark spots / blemishes that I have from a bad breakout last summer. It has a strange scent, but it dissipates quickly. It's also not readily available in Canada. I picked mine up at Target in the US. I'd definitely pick it up again.

NYC APPLE BALM
I haven't actually finished this, but I'm saying goodbye to it because I didn't like it at all. First of all, the colour I picked up was completely unflattering. Secondly, the scent was awful. Thirdly, the formulation accentuated the lines on my lips.

ALESSANDRO PEDIX FEET
I really liked this foot cream. It had a great scent and it felt really moisturizing.

WELLA BRILLIANCE CONDITIONER
When I first tried this, I really liked it. It made my hair feel quite soft. Then that night, I noticed a couple breakouts on my hairline. I completely forgot that Wella is under the same umbrellas as Sebastien -- their hair products break me out for some reason. There's an ingredient they use that just doesn't agree with me. Will not be using any more Wella products unfortunately. It's a shame because a friend of mine used the rest of this & loved it!

SHU UEMURA FULL SHIMMER ILLUMINATING HAIR TREATMENT
This is another hair mask that I really enjoyed. It's also another one for colour treated hair (which I don't have), but it still worked great! And... I'm not sure if it was a trick of the light, but I feel like it made my black hair look slightly more vivid. I'd definitely pick up the full size -- just wish it wasn't $66.

DR. SCHOLL'S RUB RELIEF STRIPS
This is a cushiony foam (in a tape-like dispenser) that helps prevent blisters from those uncomfortable heels. You stick them to the inside of your shoes -- wherever it rubs the wrong way -- and instant comfort (or at least easier to tolerate). This was so great to have and very convenient. I'd definitely pick these up again.

More samples...

FEKKAI TECHNICIAN COLOR CARE
The shampoo / conditioner was OK, nothing special really. The deep conditioner was my favourite. It felt really hydrating in straggly strands.

VASANTI BRIGHTEN UP
I liked this at first, but after a while, I started to feel a little abrasive on my skin. It felt like I was rubbing my face with grains of sand -- a little too uncomfortable for my liking.

DOCTOR T'S SUPERGOOP
I first tried this a couple years ago, and I got another sample of it. I really like the novelty of this -- an SPF infused towelette for easy application on the go -- but in practice, I don't feel that it provides enough sun protection (at least the amount of sun protection that I prefer). I like the brand, but I don't like the application.

REN GLYCOLACTIC RADIANCE RENEWAL MASK
I've heard a lot of great things about this on the blogosphere, but I'm always a little wary about glycolic acid on my skin. I ended up getting a few samples of it so I could try before I buy. I really liked it. My skin felt so great the next morning. I will definitely be purchasing the full size.

DDF ADVANCED FIRMING CREAM
This little tube lasted quite a while. I don't think I noticed a significant difference in the appearance of my skin, but my skin did feel a bit firmer & really hydrated. It's definitely something I'd consider purchasing.

VICHY NORMADERM MOISTURIZER
I really like this skincare line. It is specifically designed for acne / blemish prone skin. I enjoyed using this (I actually got ten packets of it). It felt moisturizing and it looked / felt great under makeup. It helped control the shine on my combination skin.

TRESEMMÉ SPLIT REMEDY SHAMPOO / CONDITIONER
Who doesn't love a product that controls split ends? I don't really have split ends at the moment, so, I didn't notice if it had an affect in that sense, but I still enjoyed using it. I also noticed that my ends looked a bit more hydrated after using this combination. I would definitely pick up the full size to try.

Now, is it just me or does seeing a bunch of empties incite a shopping bug? x

  1. Yes! Whenever I say goodbye to products I think to myself "how much room did I just make for more?"
The Dr.Scholl's cushions look awesome. I haven't seen these before and I'm in the "foot" section quite a fair bit at Shoppers...

  4. I don't remember where I got them from.. I want to say Shoppers because it's where I usually get these things. I've had it for a REALLY long time.. probably like 2 years.. Hopefully it's still available. I really liked that thing x

  5. I think the same thing (about the samples received in beauty boxes). The Vasanti scrub does a great job at cleaning / exfoliating the skin. I just don't like the texture.. it reminds me of the Body Shop Microdermabrasion scrub, just a smidgen too rough for my liking :) x

  6. I adore NARS blushes.. not a huge fan of the lipsticks (there's only a few that I really like) -- the lip pencils are great, though! :) x
