April Glossybox - Canadian Edition

Written by:

I received my April Glossybox today! Just in time since it's the last day of the month. I was also pleasantly surprised at the speedy delivery by Canada Post. The tracking number told me it wouldn't arrive until tomorrow.

The first thing I noticed about this box was the weight. It was pretty heavy... it was probably definitely because of all the full-sized products!

 1. Marcelle BB Cream

BB Creams are so in right now. Who doesn't want an 8-in-1 product? This is supposed to enhance your skin by evening out your skin tone and also provides anti-aging properties. It comes in two shades light/medium and medium/dark. The full size retails for $22.95.

2. AVEENO Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer

I love Aveeno products and their positively radiant collection is lovely. It is clinically shown to improve the texture and dullness of skin. I like that there's an SPF, even if it's just 15. This is a full size product and it retails for $22.99.

3. Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Shower Gel

A great bath and shower gel with a delightful fragrance. I love that you can use this for a nice bath or for a quick shower. This is full size and retails for $20.

4. Wella Brilliance Conditioner and Treatment

I have never used Wella products before so I was happy to receive these to try. Apparently that one of the ingredients in these products is diamond dust. Very luxe.

The Brilliance conditioner is supposed to moisturize and give hair a vibrant shine. The Brilliance treatment is supposed to instantly restore hair's vibrancy. Probably something that I could use because this drab weather is playing games with my hair. The full size products retail for $13.99 each.

5. Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara

This is a new mascara from Marcelle. It is supposed to give your lashes extra length and curl, while minimizing clumps. It has a nice wand. It's not too big (I don't like big wands -- they're kind of scary) and it has fine plastic bristles to comb through the lashes. I haven't tried it yet so I can't confirm, but I'm excited to try it. I love new mascaras. This is the full size and it retails for $12.50.

This box was great! I like the variety of products -- there's some skincare, makeup, and hair products. Plus, all the full size products were a great bonus. I try not to expect full size products -- since this is really a service that offers deluxe samples -- but it's always exciting to get them.

What did you think of this month's box? xx

NOTD #34: Essie Buy Me a Cameo

Written by:

A quick post on what I'm wearing on my nails today. I did a chevron print inspired nail but it didn't turn out the way I envisioned.

Using glitter as the accent wasn't the best idea -- at least the way I applied it. It looks great over the solid polish, but under it is another story. It looks clumpy and messy. In hindsight, I should have kept the glitter on the top.

At any rate, Essie Buy Me a Cameo is a great polish and I would give it ♥♥♥♥♥. It's a beautiful pearly champagne colour. A little streaky to apply because of the pearl-like finish, but it's lovely on the nail. A slow and steady application will give you the perfect finish. Thinner coats won't hurt either.

ps, the glitter I used is Strobe Lights from Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear  :).

April 2012 Topbox

Written by:

This post is a little late. I was supposed to receive my Topbox earlier this month but due to a Canada Post issue, I didn't actually receive it until the other day.

The box looks a little different this month. It was a salute to Earth day with the eco-friendly packaging made of 100% recycled materials.

1. Bella Pella Body Lotion

I have received a Bella Pella product in a previous Topbox (a bar of soap, I believe) and I enjoyed it. This lotion feels great on the skin, but it has a really strong scent. It's somewhere between fruity and florally. The scent is almost too strong for me (especially for a body lotion). The full-size retails for $15.95.

2. Benefit the POREfessional

Benefit always has the cutest names for their products. POREfessional is a balm that minimizes the appearances of pores & fine lines. I've never had a problem with large/visible pores but this may be a good primer. The full-size retails for $34.

3. Lise Watier 3D Hydration Tinted Veil

This is a 3-in-1 cream to help hydrate your skin. It's tinted and it blends nicely into the skin. It has the same coverage as a typical tinted moisturizer but it does subtly brighten the skin. The full-size retails for $35. I'm not sure if I would drop my current tinted moisturizer for this, but it worth a try.

4. Misa Satin Slippers

This is my first bottle of Misa nail polish. I often see this line at Trade Secrets and they have a large colour range. It's an iridescent pale pink. It applies quite sheer but it's a pretty colour. This is a full-size bottle and it retails for $8.99.

Dior Addict Extreme - Silhouette

Written by:

Silhouette (#339) is a beautiful peachy colour. I've been buying a lot of brights lately but I will always stay true to the barely there colours. I found this to be soft on my lips and provided a natural finish.

It applies sheer but it is still pigmented enough to cover the natural colour of my lips. It feels great on (almost like a balm) and lasts around four hours.

Dior Addict Extreme - Lucky

Written by:

Lucky (#536) is a beautiful bright pink. It goes on more muted though. It feels great on the lips, very moisturizing. It's so easy to apply. It goes on smoothly and I find I don't even need a mirror.

The colour is pigmented and easily buildable. The dewy finish is beautiful. One of the reasons I adore these Addict Extreme lipsticks.

YSL Glossy Stain #7

Written by:

Corail Aquatique (#7) is a peachy coral. This is the first one I've bought and I love it!! I originally wanted a different colour, but it's not available in Canada because it's a Nordstrom exclusive.

These Glossy Stains are like nothing I've ever tried before. They are a hybrid between a lipstick, a gloss, and a stain. It's leans a little more like a gloss or a stain than a lipstick though.

Here are my thoughts in a nutshell:

* I like the glossy finish. The glossiness doesn't last all day, but that's where the stain comes in.

* It dries down on the lips a bit darker than the initial application.

* It feels unique on the lips. It's hard to describe the sensation, but it's kind of cooling at first. It's not sticky and it's not drying.

* It's long-wearing (though not as long-wearing as a traditional stain) and it's so comfortable to wear.

* It does transfer -- on glassware, Starbucks cups, tissues, etc -- but still leaves a tint on the lips.

* The applicator is unique -- not your average doe foot. I like it, the pointy edge makes for a precise application.

This is something that I know I will repurchase time and again. It's my favourite colour out of the entire line and I just adore the formula. I will definitely be picking up a a few more colours though.

A little haul...

Written by:

Here's a look at a few lip products I picked up the other day. Two from the new Dior Addict Extreme collection and a YSL Glossy Stain.

The new Dior Addict Extremes are marvelous. I am really enjoying them. They're moisturizing on the lips and comfortable to wear. I love the dewy look they leave on my lips. I'm fairly happy with the longevity. Typically around four hours before I need to reapply.

The YSL Glossy Stain is an interesting product. There's really nothing like it. Advertised as a hybrid between a lipstick, a gloss, and a stain. It feels great on the lips -- they're comfortable and last quite a while. It looks great when you first apply it and still lovely once the glossiness disappears.

Here's what I picked up:

* Dior Addict Extreme Silhouette - a peachy nude

* Dior Addict Extreme Lucky - a bright warm pink

* YSL Glossy Stain #7 Corail Aquatique - a peachy coral

I will be doing a more detailed post about each of these products soon. I didn't want this post to be too picture heavy.

NOTD #33: Essie Fiji + Glitter

Written by:

Something a little fun. Almost like a french glitter mani. Essie Fiji is one of my favourite pale pinks but it's a pain to apply. Streaky and splotchy. It often takes me three coats for an even finish.

The glitter I used on the tips is Nicole by OPI Rainbow in the Skylie.

What are you wearing on your nails today? x

Peter Pan Collar

Written by:

I never used to like the look of the peter pan collar but now, I love it. This top is one of my favourites. I purchased it from Forever21 at a steal. It's one of those unexpected gems.

It's very business in the front but soiree in the back with it's conservative neckline and demure low-cut back.

On another note...

It's been hectic for me lately but I expect it will die down by the end of this week, so I will be back to blogging in full force.

Today is my third consecutive bad hair day. My hair is being quite uncooperative. It's either frizzy, flat, or  unmanageable. Hair clips have become my best friend. Better luck tomorrow, I suppose.

I hope you're all having a lovely day! x

NOTD #32: Revlon Starry Pink

Written by:

I haven't worn this polish in a while and I'm sure it's prettiness isn't translated in these photos. Revlon Starry Pink (which was re-released as Popular) is a pale pink with chunky silver glitter.

It's not typically something I'm drawn to but I adore this colour. I really have nothing like it in my collection. It's fairly easy to apply -- two coats works just fine.
Colour: ♥♥♥♥♥
Application: ♥♥♥♥
Lasting Power: ♥♥♥♥
I used OPI Do You Lilac It? as an accent nail. As you can see, it has already chipped and this is my second day wearing it.

Hope you're all having a great Monday! xx

FOTD: Chanel Rouge Allure Kensington

Written by:

A quick post of my face of the day yesterday, though it's pretty naked. I have on moisturizer, sunscreen, blush and a bold lip. Specifically, I'm wearing Benefit Dallas on my cheeks and Chanel Rouge Allure in Kensington on my lips.

Here's a peek at my Katniss braid attempt. You'll have to excuse the messiness. Though these pictures were taken late in the afternoon (so I had a solid five hours of wear), my braiding skills are subpar and it looked just as unkempt when I first did it.

Also note that the only retouch I did to my lips after the initial application is a little bit of gloss after lunch. So, the Rouge Allure wears quite well for me.

Happy weekend, lovelies! xx

A Few Polishes from the Essie Spring 2012 Collection

Written by:

The other day, I caved and picked up a mini set of Essie polishes for the Spring 2012 collection.

I've mentioned this before but I love these mini bottles! They're the perfect size.

The four colours in this set (from left to right) are Navigate Her, Olé Caliente, Tour de Finance, and To Buy or Not To Buy.

Navigate Her

A pastel green polish in a creme finish. I actually don't have a colour like this in my collection, so it's pretty unique to me. I like this shade, it's very Spring-y.

Colour: ♥♥♥♥♥
Application:
♥♥♥♥
Lasting Power: ♥♥♥♥

Olé Caliente

A red/orange/pink colour. The colour is a rich red that leans coral. It's fun and bright. It applies beautifully and makes a perfect pedicure.

Colour: ♥♥♥♥
Application: ♥♥♥♥
Lasting Power: ♥♥♥♥

Tour de Finance

A bright shimmery fuchsia. The shimmer is actually really pretty in this polish, but this picture does not do it justice.

Colour: ♥♥♥♥
Application: ♥♥♥♥
Lasting Power: ♥♥♥♥

To Buy or Not To Buy

A shimmery lavender. Actually, the shimmer isn't that noticeable unless you're up close to it. The first coat applies streaky but evens out with another layer.
Colour: ♥♥♥♥
Application: ♥♥♥♥
Lasting Power: ♥♥♥♥♥
